Girls Active - Activity ideas

Urban Rebounding

Urban Rebounding is an unique form of exercise that reduces your body fat and firms your legs, thighs, abdomen, arms and hips. The workout not only improves the participant’s cardio-vascular fitness, but it continually challenges balance, coordination and proprioception like no other activity can. An Urban Rebounding workout burns a tremendous amount of calories with minimal stress on the body.   SSP's in the North are using these rebounders to engage their girls with fantastic results.

Rock-It-Ball

Rock-It-Ball is a high impact sport, played for only minutes at a time as it is exhausting! The equipment is a plastic Rock-It, safety glasses and Rock-It  Balls. The aim of the game is to strike your opponent with the ball as many times as possible to score points whilst avoiding getting hit yourself. Rock-It-Ball increases Participation 'wherever we have played or demonstrated, in schools, parks and leisure centres, children have crowded round, desperate to play. This makes it ideal for those schools who have difficulty getting youngsters involved in established sport – it gives them another avenue which really appeals to the students. It’s different. It also means that they are all starting from the same level.' Schools in Plymstock SSP are seeing high attendance rates in e/c clubs, most notably from girls who are not otherwise team players.

Street Surfing

Street Surfing is similar to skateboarding but the board is jointed in the middle - it requires a twisting movement to generate momentum. It has been introduced in our partnership with much success and is now included in the curriculum in several schools. We also host annual competitions for students to display their skills.

Boards cost £100.00 for a package including board, helmet and all necessary pads. Street Surfing courses are available through a company based in Dorset.

Bell Boating

Bell Boating has been a very successful activity that Plymstock SSP have introduced over the last few years. The Bell Boat is a stable craft that can hold up to 10-12 young people, depending on size. It requires a qualified helm to steer and supervise the craft and is an excellent activity for team and confidence building.
