Girls Active - Monthly updates
July 2010
Update from the Girls Active Regional Hub Networking Event on 12th/13th July to follow.
June 2010
Congratulations to Danielle O'Connor from PHSG who has been selected as the Sportsister Magazine Sportstar of the Month for her excellent leadership and commitment to Rowing. Check out the July/August issue for an article on Danielle.
The Girls Active Sponsored event 2010 was the Schools Challenge Half Marathon for MNDA. 97 Girls Active girls took part and overall 67 girls completed their 13.1 miles, raising £1284.76 for Motor Neurone Disease. Well done girls! Watch this space for news of the sponsored event 2011 and how to get involved.

Feedback from the SW1 and 2 PDM Meetings
Many thanks to all of the PDM's who provided us with ideas and feedback at the recent meetings to help get the Girls Active regional Hub functioning more effectively. The following information was gathered:
- In the majority of SSP's it was felt that Girls Active could be imbedded into existing sports councils/leadership academies.
- Everyone felt that there was already lots of good stuff happening across the region - we need to share info and resources.
- A lot of girls are motivated by charity events and good causes.
- Most SSP's would be happy to provide a contact Girls Active person for us to liaise with. Please email egoolden@phsg.org with names and email addresses.
The following suggestions were received and will be used to devise ways of supporting Girls Active work across the region.
- A website would be great that all can access (Plymstockssp.com) to share good practice and ideas. These pages will be updated weekly to reflect what is going on in the partnership. We will require input from all schools in the region to enable this to happen. Please use the contact us link.
- An idea of activites that have been successfully implemented in our schools to engage girls would be helpful. See activities page on this site.
- What funding streams if any are available to support the Girls Active work? See funding pages on this site.
- Are there any audits available to assess what the girls want? We have posted one of our survey monkey questionnaires on to this site as an example of the type of questions we ask our girls at KS2/3 transition. Do you have a questionnaire that we could post here?
- Templates of useful documents would be helpful to save on all of the admin work. See templates page on this site.
- How have successful Girls Active Days been organised in the past? See Girls Active Day Toolkit page on this site.
- An annual magazine/newsletter for the region could be produced to celebrate all that has been achieved by the girls in the SW. At present we are using the Sportsister magazine to promote our region, but would consider a regional publication if there was enough interest from all SW SSP's.
- A charity event could be entered and a team from all over the SW could join up to enter. We will contact various charities to see if there is one that will work with us to support Girls Active and allow us to split any funds raised with them. We could then suport a charity a year and generate funds for individual SSP's to promote Girls Active work. The YST are already in contact with one charity to try and form a partnership - more info to follow when an outcome has been reached.
- Top tips and case studies would help to enage PE Depts and the girls themselves. See Bright Ideas page on this site - case studies required please.
- If the Girls Active logo was available for all to use then it would help to advertise the scheme. Unfortunately we are unable to use the logo due to copyright issues - I will check this at the regional meeting on July 12/13th and feedback more on this issue.
